We are proud to offer our support to this year’s 2010 British Keelboat Academy (BKA) for all branding solutions. The BKA programme aims to give the young sailors the skill and experience to take their sailing abilities forward and, in future, to become involved with top level sailing campaigns. For the 2010 season the team will be racing their TP52 ‘John Merricks II’ which is dry sailed from Hamble, Southampton, along with a fleet of three J80s based in UKSA, Cowes. We look forward to supporting them through the year, and hope the team enjoys this years racing.

The latest incarnation of the HUGO BOSS IMOCA 60 was given a brief airing on Friday as it was transferred from the Green Marine shed at Spitfire Quay, Southampton to Alex Thomson Racing’s base in Gosport.

Mark Lees, Kirsty Matthews, Tom Forrester Coles, Henry Smith, Oli Egan, Chris Dorey, James Brown and Stephen Aiken have been invited to sail with Shenzhen Universiade at the 2010 event (29 Oct - 1 Nov). The team has sponsored all their costs and consiquently they will be sailing as Shenzhen Universiade Sailing Team. The event is set to attract over 60 boats and 600 sailors hailing from more than 20 nations around the World - a great opportunity for the BKA sailors to network and pick up some good international expirience.

I awoke after 18 minutes and realized that something was wrong, the boat was lolling to windward and above me I could hear the sails slatting. On the side deck the sheet banged like an off-beat metronome as the head sail alternately pulled it tight and released it.  I stretched and went up through the narrow companionway hatch and out into a gloomy South Atlantic dawn. About me the swell was small but sharp and it added to the percussion of the rigging with its own melody played upon the hull.

British skipper Chris Stanmore-Major today became the fourth skipper to complete the first ocean sprint of the epic VELUX 5 OCEANS solo round the world yacht race. After 36 days and 44 minutes at sea, the 33-year-old from Cowes, Isle of Wight, crossed the finish line in Cape Town, South Africa, at 4.44pm local time in beautiful weather conditions.

Today Alex Thomson was ready to take the next step towards joining his boat HUGO BOSS after a week of recovery in Barcelona, following his emergency appendectomy last week. He will be travelling home to the UK today to finish his recuperation, and begin his ‘race to the race’ all over again.

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is celebrating 15 years as chairman of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race by announcing a brand new fleet of twelve 70-foot racing yachts for his global ocean challenge.

“Racing around the world still remains one of life’s great challenges and I’m extremely proud to have witnessed over the past 15 years how the Clipper Race has changed people’s lives and turned almost 3,000 sailing novices into experienced ocean racers," says Knox-Johnston. "With the eighth edition of the race, Clipper 11-12, set to start in August 2011, we have commissioned the highly respected naval architect, Tony Castro, to design us a new fleet that will bring the Clipper Race to the next level for Clipper 13-14 and beyond.”

Mike Slade’s superaxi ICAP Leopard is under going final preparations for a full season of racing including the first ever Atlantic Ocean Racing Series.

ICAP Leopard sailed across the Atlantic last November and has ahead of her a four-month programme of racing throughout the Caribbean and America.

Following the success of the Squad Selections for the British Keelboat Academy at the end of last year, the RYA has announced plans to link with three regional centres to offer keelboat race training.

The six-part television series which follows the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race has moved to a higher profile, mid-week slot a couple of weeks later than provisionally scheduled.

The ten international sailors have been appointed for the next Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race following a rigorous selection process. They will each skipper one of the ten 68ft racing yachts which are preparing to compete in the 40,000-mile challenge.
